Jon and I, MaryAnn, met in Sociology class in the AB 1 building at Sam Houston State University in Jan. 2000. We will never forget that class for many reasons, but that's where it all began. On July 27, 2002 we were married and we were blessed a few years later on Dec. 15, 2005 with our first born, Addison Stayton Hill and then were blessed with our son, Aiden Steib Hill on November 25, .We are both teachers although I'm temporarily retired to stay home and raise Addison and Aiden. We have the perfect little family of 4 and are blessed by God beyond belief!!!

Bad Ike!!! Bad Ike!!!

Well, I guess Ike didn't listen! Who knew that way up here in the North we could be so adversely affected by a hurricane. I know I've never been through anything like this and pray I never will again. But then again I know, I went through nothing compared to so many others. After all is said and done, horrific hurricane sounds thru the night, waking up to so much destruction, no electricity for 5 days and no internet for 19 days, I know that we were soooooooooo blessed. Blessed beyond measure to have our family still in one piece and our possessions ( at least most of them).

I never dreamed it would have been as bad as it was. Addison slept in the bed with us and never stirred for a minute. Even thru the television most of the night, and then of course when we lost power, the radio and the candles. I couldn't sleep so Jon sat up with me. We just listened to the news broadcasts and listened to the hurricane outside our 4 walls. It rained for about 18 hours straight. With winds that sounded like they could bust windows and hard rain. When we woke up most were in a lot worse shape then we were. We had no fence...Which was pretty minor compared to the fact that so many neighbors roofing was blown off (shingles and such). Our roof held up pretty well even though we are missing a few shingles. Our neighbors had shingles blowing off their roof at 7 that morning and sustained $28,000 worth of damage to their house. We had a little water in the house which was not good for the carpet in our bedroom. We also have some water in the walls but will see how bad it is when the adjusted comes out. Our wood floor took on some water from the doorway but we'll just have to see if it adds up.

So, with no electricity and it being sooo hot we all camped out in the living room. Addison thought this was just the greatest thing in the world. If it hadn't been for the fact that she kept trying to turn on the TV, I'd think she preferred no electricity, over electricity.

This is Addison eating Harvest Wheat pizza at 10 am on Sunday morning. Pizza on the grill is pretty dang good. At least my 4 pizzas didn't have to be thrown away. We spent the first two days at our neighbors mostly. Addison had a ball playing with Julia and it passed the time nicely talking with Tracey and Charlie. Here's Addison and Julia playing. Julia is 8...I think!!!

This was the scene for 48 hours...sun up to sun down!!!

This picture was taken by April's cousin but this is the Marina next to our subdivision. Our house is about a mile away, if that.

Wow!! Wind is a powerful thing!!!

Next time we have the grill fired-up, we will have to break out the harvest wheat ;)
